Botanischer Garten
Wer die Vielfalt von Botanik liebt, dem empfehlen wir einen Besuch im Botanischen Garten. Richtig gehört, auf Kreta gibt es einen Botanischen Garten und zwar in der Region Chania. Wir haben ihn Mitte September 2018 besucht und waren hell begeistert!!! Hier nun eine kleine Bildauswahl, eben dieses Besuches.
If you love the diversity of botany, we recommend a visit to the Botanical Garden. That's right, there is a Botanical Garden on Crete in the Chania region. We visited it in mid-September 2018 and were absolutely thrilled!!! Here is a small selection of photos from that visit.
Erste Geocache-Tour mit "fio4ever" / First Geocache-Tour with "fio4ever"
Alles fängt irgendwann einmal an, so auch das "Geocachen". Es gibt kaum einen Beginn, den man so genau nachvollziehen kann wie das Geocachen, weil das Protokoll führen ja der Sinn ist. So weiss ich genau, dass ich am 15.Jan. 2016, "gecoacht" von "fio4ever", meinen ersten Geocache am Mont Selena geloggt habe. Auf dieser Tour konnte ich auch wunderbar zusehen wie man einen Geocache versteckt.
So sei dieses Kreta Album natürlich auch unserem Freund Günter, alias fio4ever, gewidmet!!! Danke!
Wenn "Alpenbewohner" mit den Gedanken spielen nach Kreta auszuwandern, aber Bedenken haben, dass sie auf die Berge verzichten müssten, werden diese Photos die Befürchtungen wegwischen!!! Der höchste Berg auf Kreta (Psiloritis 2456m) ist nur ca. 500 Meter weniger hoch als der höchste Berg Deutschlands (Zugspitze 2962 m).
Everything starts at some point, including "geocaching". There is hardly a beginning that you can understand as precisely as geocaching, because the purpose is to keep a log. So I know exactly that on 15.Jan. 2016, "coached" by "fio4ever", logged my first geocache at Mont Selena. On this tour I was also able to watch how a geocache is hidden.
So this Crete album is of course also dedicated to our friend Günter, alias fio4ever!!! Thanks!
If "Alpine dwellers" play with the idea of migrating to Crete, but are concerned that they would have to do without the mountains, these photos will wipe away those fears!!! The highest mountain on Crete (Psiloritis 2456m) is only about 500 meters lower than the highest mountain in Germany (Zugspitze 2962m).
Almiros Beach
Diese Aufnahmen sind vom 10. Oktober 2020. Die Stimmung war wie bei einem See, ich habe praktisch nichts verändert!!!
These recordings are from October 10, 2020. The atmosphere was like that of a lake, I changed practically nothing!!!
Alte Landstrasse / Old road
Die alte Strasse war früher die Hauptverbindung von Agios Nikolaos nach Sitia. Es ist kaum zu glauben, dass hier Busse in beide Richtungen gefahren sind. Zwischen den Ortschaften Mirsini und Mesa Mouliana kann mach eine schöne Wanderung auf eben dieser alten Strasse geniessen. Der Blick über Tourloti in Richtung Agios Nikolaos ist schlicht und einfach "grandios"!!!
The old road used to be the main connection from Agios Nikolaos to Sitia. It's hard to believe that buses went both ways here. Between the villages of Mirsini and Mesa Mouliana you can enjoy a nice hike on this very old road. The view over Tourloti in the direction of Agios Nikolaos is simply "terrific"!!!
Aradena Schlucht / Aradena Gorge
Diese Tour im Süden von Kreta führte uns zusammen mit Günter ("fio4ever") durch die Aradena Schlucht und am Meer entlang bis an den Likos Beach. Leider ist es keine Rundwanderung. Wie man auf den Photos sieht, erwischten wir einen"Traumtag"!
This tour in the south of Crete took us together with Günter ("fio4ever") through the Aradena Gorge and along the sea to Likos Beach. Unfortunately it is not a circular hike. As you can see from the photos, we had a "dream day"!

Das mit dem Datum (17.12.2019) ist kein Tippfehler. Wir waren wirklich an diesm Datum an einem kleinen Strand an der Ostküste von Spinalonga baden. Das Erstaunliche aber war, dass ich (Rudakis) nicht kalt hatte, ich bin nämlich seit wir auf Kreta wohnen ein "Gfrörlig" (schweizerdeutsch: Temperaturweichei) geworden!
The date (12/17/2019) is not a typo. We actually went swimming that date at a small beach on the east coast of Spinalonga. But the amazing thing was that I (Rudakis) wasn't cold, because since we've been living on Crete I've become a "Gfrörlig" (Swiss German: temperature wimp)!
Chrissi Nisi Insel / Chrissy Nisi Island
Chrissi Nisi (6.7.2020) ist eine kleine unbewohnte Insel ca 15 km. südlich von Ierapetra. Ierapetra wiederum ist die südlichste Stadt Europas. Den Trip auf die Insel haben wir am 3. Tage nach Corona gemacht. Wo sonst ca. 1500 Leute sich tollen waren es an diesem Tag nur gerade mal 100 Personen!!!
Chrissi Nisi (July 6th, 2020) is a small uninhabited island about 15 km. south of Ierapetra. Ierapetra, on the other hand, is the southernmost city in Europe. We made the trip to the island on the 3rd day after Corona. Where else about 1500 people were frolicking, there were only 100 people that day!!!
Exo Lakonia (unser Tal) / Exo Laconia (our valley)
Ein Spaziergang den wir oft machen um nicht mit dem Auto wegfahren zu müssen. Noch bei jeder dieser Touren haben wir Neues entdeckt!!!
A walk that we often take to avoid having to drive away by car. We discovered something new on each of these tours!!!
Kloster Faneromeni / Monastery Faneromeni
Das Kloster Faneromeni ist auf einer Höhe von 540 m ü. M. und gewährt eine tolle Sicht über die Mirabello Bucht. Jedes Jahr am 15. August (Marie Himmelfahrt) pilgern zahlreiche Menschen zum Kloster, viele sogar zu Fuss von Agios Nikolaos (ca. 24 km) aus.
Geht man vom Kloster den Weg hinauf zu der Antennenanlage eröffnet sich ein Panorama der ganz besonderen Art. Man sieht von Kalydon bei Plaka bis zur Cha-Schlucht auf dem Weg Richtung Ierapetra, wirklich "Atemberaubend".
The Faneromeni Monastery is at an altitude of 540 m above sea level. M. and grants a great view over the Mirabello Bay. Every year on August 15 (Assumption Day) numerous people make a pilgrimage to the monastery, many even on foot from Agios Nikolaos (approx. 24 km).
If you go up the path from the monastery to the antenna system, a panorama of a very special kind opens up. You can see from Kalydon near Plaka to the Cha Gorge on the way towards Ierapetra, really "breathtaking".

Ginsterberg / Gorse mountain
Ein Spaziergang den wir im Winter wöchenlich machen führt uns von den Mühlen auf Spinalonga bei Elounda zur Lukaskirche hoch. Wie man sieht ist der Berg voll von Ginsterbüschen. Und wie fast immer muss unser Alf bei Tanja als Model herhalten!
A walk that we do weekly in winter takes us from the mills on Spinalonga near Elounda up to St. Luke's Church. As you can see, the mountain is full of gorse bushes. And as almost always, our Alf has to serve as a model for Tanja!

Kritsa Schlucht / Kritsa Gorge
Die Kritsa Schlucht ist nur gerade mal 5 km von unserem Haus entfernt und ist eine der schönsten Schluchten in Ostkreta. Sie ist in ca. 2 1/2 Stunden als nicht sehr schwierige Rundwanderung zu bewältigen, jedoch gutes Schuhwerk ist zu empfehlen.
The Kritsa Gorge is only 5 km away from our house and is one of the most beautiful gorges in East Crete. It can be mastered in about 2 1/2 hours as a not very difficult circular hike, but good shoes are recommended.
Kroustas Tour 19.2.2023
Diese Tour haben wir in unserer "Wanderhochsaison", als im Winter bei tollem Wetter und angenemer Teperatur, gemacht.
Es ist eine Geocache Tour von Freund "fio4ever" mit total 12 Dosen. Was die Augen zu sehen bekommen, ist spektkulär!!!
Wer diese Tour machen möcht sollte gutes Schuhwerk haben!
We did this tour in our "hiking high season", when it was winter with great weather and a pleasant temperature.
It's a geocache tour from friend "fio4ever" with a total of 12 cans. What your eyes see is spectacular!!!
If you want to do this tour, you should have good shoes!
Myrtos
Die kleine Ortschaft Myrtos ist zwar touristisch hat aber extrem viel Charme. Während andere Dörfer zu "Touristenburgen" hochgezüchtet werden, ist hier die Zeit irgendwie stehen geblieben! Für mich strahlt es etwas "Hippiehaftes" aus, - also, etwas Jugenderinnerungen!!!
The small town of Myrtos is touristy but has a lot of charm. While other villages are bred into "tourist castles", time has somehow stood still here! For me it radiates something "hippie-like" - well, some childhood memories!!!
Sonntagswanderung / Sunday hike
Am Sonntag 9.Mai 2022 bei nicht zu heissem Frühlingswetter, haben wir eine Wanderung bei Kastelli, ganz in unserer Nähe unternommen. Die Route hat uns unser Griechisch Lehrer Manolis gezeigt. Eine wirklich beeindruckende Route.
On Sunday, May 9th, 2022, when the spring weather was not too hot, we went for a hike near Kastelli, very close to us. Our Greek teacher Manolis showed us the route. A really impressive route.
Spinalonga
Spinalonga ist eine Halbinsel die dem Ort Elounda vor gelaget ist. Die Verbindung zum Meer ist schmal,so ist das Wasser fast immer ruhig. Das bedeutet für und ideal zum SUPen (Stand up paddling).
Spinalonga is a peninsula that lies in front of the town of Elounda. The connection to the sea is narrow, so the water is almost always calm. This makes it ideal for SUP (stand up paddling).
Vai
Vai ist der grösste Palmenstrand Europas. Er liegt ganz im Osten der Insel. Wie man auf den Bildern sieht, hat es praktisch keine Menschen an Strand. Auch das hat mit Corona zu tun, sonst wären hier "Busweise" Touristen und der Erholungsfaktor, den wir geniessen konnten, gäbe es dann eben nicht mehr.
Vai is the largest palm beach in Europe. It is in the very east of the island. As you can see from the pictures, there are practically no people on the beach. That also has something to do with Corona, otherwise "buses" would be tourists here and the relaxation factor that we were able to enjoy would no longer exist.
Westlich von Kavousi / West of Kavousi
Eine Tour durch eine kleine Schlucht westlich von Kavousi. Der Weg führt weiter oberhalb von Felswänden mit Sicht über das Meer Richtung Agios Nikolaos.
